When you get braces, you likely don’t want to deal with having them on for very long. You want to get your new and improved smile as soon as possible. Doing things like breaking a brace can drag out the process and cost more money too. In order to finish the process as soon as possible, you need to take good care of your San Antonio braces. Do the following things to keep your braces functioning as best as they can.
Caring for Your Braces While you are wearing braces, there are a few things that you will need to cut out of your diet. No matter how tempting it may be to eat these things, you should avoid them at all costs. Anything that is hard or chewy can easily damage braces. This includes hard candies, gum, taffy, and other similar products. Popcorn is also destructive because the kernels are hard and can get in the braces. You should also avoid things like coffee and dark sodas. The coloring in these drinks can stain your teeth underneath the braces, which will be easily seen when the braces are taken off. You should also brush carefully each day. Twice a day at least, brush around each brace and use the pick that you are given by your orthodontist to get rid of any food stuck in the braces. As you brush each day, inspect both the braces and the wire that runs through them. If you notice that anything is loose or seems off, call your orthodontist immediately to set up an appointment. A broken brace will not do its job and can actually hurt the inside of your mouth if it comes loose.
Listen to the Professionals When your orthodontist gives you any instructions on how to take care of your San Antonio braces, listen to them carefully. Your orthodontist knows your situation and is an expert, so you should listen to them and trust them completely. Follow all instructions and take the precautions that they want you to take. Listening to the professional will help get you your dream smile that much faster.
