Oil prices have been increasing recently because of the continuing rise in the world market. This has been the negative effect brought by the violence in Libya. Previously, a 30+ liters of gasoline for our car would just be around P1400.00 but now I was surprised that it reached P1700.00 for almost the same consumption few months back. Tsk! Tsk!
Good thing that during the time that we were canvassing on what type of car we should buy, we have included the fuel efficiency from our list of requirements not just because we like a car that is not too expensive to use but we were somewhat anticipating the oil price hike too. Right now, Whitey’s (Toyota Yaris) fuel consumption is around 11-12L/km, which is for us, it is way much thriftier as compared to if we have gotten one of the big cars like Ford Expedition. Because you will not just think of your gasoline consumption, you would also think of how much the cost will be of your preventive maintenance every like 5,000 or 10,000kms. Not to mention the cost of the parts like timing belt, tires, water pump, etc,. that need to be change every now and then.
You really wouldn’t be able to consider owning a vehicle as an asset but it is more of a liabilities. But for me it is somewhat part of the necessities especially when you have a kid. So with the recent oil price hike, the only thing that we could do is to keep our eye shut and hope that the price will soon decrease.
How about you, do you also consider owning a vehicle as a necessity?
